2024 Int’l Day of Education: Mkpat Enin TC Chairman donates educational materials to students

To mark the 2024 International Day of Education on Wednesday, January 24, the Transition Committee Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Council, Hon. Mercy Bassey visited select schools in the area where she donated educational materials to students.

In her address, Hon Bassey noted that in line with the theme of this year’s celebration, “Learning for Lasting Peace”, it was necessary to deliberate on the profound influence education has, not only on individual lives but on the very essence of our society.

She further assured that in Akwa Ibom State, the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno has charted the course with the ARISE Agenda—a visionary blueprint for the progress and prosperity of the state, adding that at the center of the Agenda is an unwavering commitment to providing inclusive and equitable quality education

“Mkpat Enin Local Government Area proudly aligns itself with this vision of our golden Governor and global initiative, dedicated to ensuring lifelong learning opportunities for every citizen.

“From my time as the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, I instituted an annual quiz competition for secondary schools in Mkpat Enin where educational materials are donated to winning schools and even as consolation prizes. This is an initiative that will continue under my leadership as the Transition Committee Chairman.

“Recently, we announced a free enrollment for indigenes of Mkpat Enin who intend to write the upcoming JAMB examination. There are so much more coming. Today, to mark the International Day of Education, we will be sharing writing materials to students in some schools,” she said.

Among the schools visited were Ibiaku Clan Community Secondary School, Ikot Ebak; Excellence College, Ikot Unya; Community Secondary School, Mkpat Enin; Secondary School, Ukam; and Esetang High School, Ekim.
