ARMED FORCES REMEMBRANCE DAY: MKPAT ENIN TO RENOVATE LEGION HOUSE FOR FALLEN HEROES

As part of efforts to appreciate the sacrifices of the Armed Forces and honour the memory of those who laid down their lives for the peace of the country, the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government, Hon. (Engr.) Emmanuel Inyang has announced plans to renovate the Legion House in Mkpat Enin.

Engr. Inyang announced this today during the grand finale of activities marking the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day celebration.

At the ceremony which took place in the Mkpat Enin Local Government Council Secretariat, Mkpat Enin, the Council boss inspected guard of honour mounted by the ex servicemen.

He said the renovation of the Legion House was imperative to ensure that the labour of the fallen heroes are not in vain.

According to him, the Armed Forces Remembrance Day commemoration calls for sober reflection on the contribution of the heroes who paid the supreme price for the survival of Nigeria so that Nigerians may live in peace.

“Their patriotic zeal and roles during the past World Wars and the Nigerian Civil War have helped not only to preserve world peace and tranquility, but has also helped to sustain the much cherished unity of our dear Fatherland as a sovereign Nation.” Engr. Inyang said.

The Chairman solicited support for the Nigerian Legion through the launch of the Remembrance Emblem to cater for widows and children of the fallen heroes.

In his address, the Mkpat Enin Area Council Chairman of the Nigeria Legion, Ex Major Anthony Ekim, retired expressed gratitude to the Mkpat Enin Council Chairman for his plans towards the Nigerian Legion and appealed for job opportunities for children of the ex servicemen and provision of motorcycles to members across the four clans in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.

The event featured the laying of wreaths at the cenotaph of the unknown soldiers, minute’s silence in their honour, firing of the symbolic 21 gun salute, as well as blowing of the last post, signing of the condolence register and prayers for the retired soldiers and their families.

Among personalities who graced the event were the wife of the Chairman, Mrs. Edidiong Emmanuel Inyang; the member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uwem Imoh-Ita; Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Nyakno Ekpo; Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin, Edidem Akpan Akpan Ekpene; State PDP Assistant Secretary, Rt. Hon. Anietie Sunday; PDP Chapter Chairman; Hon. Isaiah Lawrence as well as former House of Representatives member, Rt. Hon. Bernard Udo; the immediate past Chairman of the Local Government Transition Committee, Lady Mercy Bassey and former Chairmen of Council including Prince Anieokpon Ekpo, Lady Ekaette Usip and Hon. Ubong Ekefre.
