MKPAT ENIN TC CHAIRMAN UNVEILS LOGO/PLANS FOR 35TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION

The Transition Committee Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon Mercy Bassey has unveiled the logo and plans of activities lined up for her 35th anniversary celebration of the local government.

In a press briefing in Uyo on Monday, the Chairman and Chief host of the Anniversary Celebration, Lady Bassey said the 35th anniversary celebration was inspired by the need to bridge existing interest and political barriers and bring the people together to chart a common course for the development of the area.

She further explained that the theme of the event; “Mkpat Enin at 35: Our Journey, Our Story,” would give the people an opportunity to reminisce their journey thus far and know whether they’ve made a remarkable progress within the years and the areas to improve on.

According to her, “The inspiration behind Mkpat Enin at 35 is to bring our people together, it’s about unity and development of our people. The reason for the theme is to guide us to ruminate our political journey so far and things we need to do.

“The event is a rallying point where we collapse our interest together for the development of our council. This wasn’t a one man’s idea but a collective ideas from my team.”

She recalled that the council earlier had stakeholders meeting where leaders of different political parties in the council gathered to forge a way forward for the council as the development of the council supercedes the personal or political interest of any indigene.

“We had the stakeholders meeting where all the leaders in different political parties attended. At that point it was clear that beyond politics we share the same vision, which is the development of our communities.” Bassey said.

As part of the activities lined up for the anniversary celebration, an essay competition titled “The Mkpat Enin of My Dream” has, according to the Council Chairman been organized to engage the youths and encourage them to envision a prosperous future for their beloved local government area.

“This competition is expected to ignite the creative minds of young scholars and foster a sense of pride and ownership in the community’s development. We want to see what we can build out of those stories they will give us.

“The essay is going to be in three categories, (1)Secondary school (2) Tertiary Institutions (3) post graduate/working class. All these come with reward, both cash and material,” she assured.

She said Governor Umo Eno is expected as Principal Guest, while his wife and daughter of the soil, Pastor Patience Umo Eno is expected as Mother of the day. The senator representing Akwa Ibom South Senatorial District, Sen. Ekong Sampson; Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof Eno Ibanga; and the member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency, Rt Hon Uwem Imo-Ita are to go-host the event. The event will be chaired by Father Monsignor Iniobong Udoidem while Father Justin Udomah will serve as Keynote Speaker.

She appreciated efforts and contributions of other members of her team including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Hilary Oton; Secretary, Pastor Friday Affia, and other members of the Transition Committee in building an enduring future for Mkpat Enin.
