-As Stakeholders Across Political Parties Call For Unity, Togetherness

The Transition Committee Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon Mercy Bassey has unveiled the uniform for Mkpat Enin 35th Anniversary Celebration billed for Friday, May 3, 2024.
In her address at the Special Stakeholders’ Meeting on Wednesday, April 17, Lady Bassey disclosed that her administration’s decision to convene a meeting of stakeholders across party lines was borne out of the need to strengthen the bond of unity among the people.
“This stakeholders’ meeting is, first of all, to re-awaken the spirit of patriotism among us. It is a meeting that is meant to reignite our love for Mkpat Enin and earnest desire to see our people overcome the present challenges,” she said.
“As stakeholders, our people continuously look up to us for directions and solutions because we are meant to be the pathfinders. That is why within and outside this local government, Mkpat Enin is judged by the actions and inactions of the leaders.
“Many of the challenges we are facing in Mkpat Enin are issues that we can tackle if we are sincere and committed. Again, that is why as an administration, the Transition Committee is taking the lead by hosting this all-inclusive stakeholders’ meeting irrespective of political interest, career paths or religion,” she continued.
While unveiling the wrappers which will be worn by indigenes and special dignitaries at the anniversary ceremony, Hon Bassey expressed the belief that the events of the anniversary will bring the people closer and foster togetherness.
In her goodwill message, the former deputy governor of Akwa Ibom, Noble Lady Valerie Ebe, commended Hon Bassey for daring to be different while acknowledging her charismatic and inclusive leadership style.
Lady Ebe further thanked the state governor, Pastor Umo Eno for his exemplary leadership, urging the people of Mkpat Enin to reciprocate the governor’s benevolence to area by remaining united and supporting the government.
The Paramount Ruler of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, HRM Akpan Akpan Ekpene, said he he lacked words to describe Hon Mercy Bassey’s leadership style, adding he was glad to see Mkpat Enin people across party lines coming together to discuss about the local government.
On his part, the state Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof Eno Ibanga said the stakeholders’ meeting was timely and appreciated the Transition Committee Chairman for prioritizing the interest and unity of the local government.
Prof Ibanga urged Mkpat Enin people to live in peace among themselves while thanking Governor Eno for the numerous road projects his administration has initiated in the local government.
In his goodwill message, the Member representing Mkpat Enin State Constituency in Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Hon. Uwem Imo-Ita urged the people to let love lead, appealing that the template of the all-inclusive stakeholders’ meeting be sustained.
Speaking on behalf of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, the party’s chapter chairman in Mkpat Enin, Hon Anietie Sunday, said that the all inclusive meeting was first in the history of Mkpat Enin and appreciated the Transition Committee Chairman for relating across divides. He thanked Mkpat Enin indigenes especially those in other parties who responded to the call.
Mr Ini Akpan, SSA to the Governor on Youth, urged Mkpat Enin people to always look inward first for solutions to their internal problems while advising against pull down syndrome. “Mkpat Enin has everything we can think so we should protect and defend our home,” he said while thanking the Transition Committee Chairman for the historic meeting.
Also speaking, a former Director NYSC, Akwa Ibom State, Obong Paul Atah poured encomium on the Transition Committee Chairman for the wisdom to call for stakeholders’ meeting that cuts across party lines, saying that it has never happened and appreciated the customized uniform for Mkpat Enin indigenes.
A former Transition Committee Chairman of Mkpat Enin, Lady Ekaette Usip appreciated Hon Bassey for her leadership style and members of the Transition Committee for supporting the chairman. She thanked Governor Eno for the foresight in appointing Hon Bassey, whom she described as a “symbol of peace”.
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Hon Utitofon Jeremiah thanked Governor Eno for setting the example for inclusive governance with how he relates with the national leaders of APC like President Bola Tinubu and the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio.
According to him, it was the governor’s example that made it possible for the Mkpat Enin Transition Committee Chairman to emulate, appreciating Lady Bassey for personally inviting him and his State Chairman to discuss Mkpat Enin and good governance.
Barr Lawrence Umoren of the Labour Party appreciated the across party lines inclusive meeting while advising the Transition Committee Chairman to keep up the good work and be ready to receive criticism when need arises.
Prince Nseobong appreciated the Transition Committee Chairman for being a unifying force, adding that Ikpa Ibom as a clan was proud of her.
The founder of Solid Rock Kingdom Church, Apostle John Okoriko, who spoke on behalf of clergies, said Hon Bassey’s leadership was a manifestation of God’s plan for Mkpat Enin, adding that the church was proud to identify with her administration.
Other stakeholders who spoke at the event joined their voice to call for unity and togetherness among the people of Mkpat Enin, and as well commended the Transition Committee led by Lady Bassey for the decision to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Local Government Area.
The meeting was well attended by past and present elected officials from Mkpat Enin. Among them are, former AKHA Members, Hon Otobong Ndem and his successor, Hon Victor Ekwere; former Chairman of Mkpat Enin, Hon Udo Sam Umoattan, clergies, traditional rulers, youth and women groups, etc.
