EMMANCIPATION BLUEPRINT: MKPAT ENIN COUNCIL TRAINS TRADITIONAL BIRTH ATTENDANTS ON SAFER DELIVERY PRACTICES

‎In line with the EMMANCIPATION blueprint of the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government, Engr. Emmanuel Inyang, the council has organized a sensitization and training programme for Traditional Birth Attendants (TBAs) in Mkpat Enin.

‎Speaking at the workshop, Engr. Inyang represented by the Vice Chairman, Mrs. Owoidoho Inyangetuk said his administration was focused on strengthening the health sector because “Health is Wealth.”

He explained that the training was aimed at equipping TBAs with practical knowledge and safer delivery methods.

Engr. Inyang commended the Supervisor for Health, Mrs. Idaraobong Silas, for her commitment to improving healthcare and the TBAs for their dedication, noting that their work requires divine grace, especially without formal training.

‎In a keynote address, a medical expert, Dr. John Udobang applauded the Council Chairman for his continuous development strides especially his empowerment initiatives and investments in grassroots health care, describing him as “a leader with vision, whose priority is the wellbeing of his people.”

‎Dr. Udobang said the seminar, which is a major step toward improving maternal health in rural communities, was to train TBAs and integrate them into the health system, strengthen their skills, and equip them with life-saving techniques needed to reduce maternal and infant deaths.

‎He outlined key areas that should be covered in the next training, including HIV testing, proper use of examination gloves, bleeding control, and the management of postpartum hemorrhage.

‎In her remarks, Supervisor for Health, Mrs. Idaraobong Silas thanked the Chairman for supporting the initiative and stressed the importance of timely referrals, recalling a case where a TBA failed to send a patient to the hospital on time.

‎Speaking for the TBAs, Mrs. Susan Sunday Ibanga thanked the Chairman, describing the seminar as impactful.

‎The event featured interactive discussions and the presentation of materials and gift items to participants.
