
As Nigeria commemorates its annual Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government of Akwa Ibom State, Engr. Emmanuel Inyang, has pledged to prioritize the welfare of service personnel and the families of those who laid down their lives defending the nation’s freedom and peace.
Engr. Inyang made the declaration during a thanksgiving service held on Sunday, at Qua Iboe Church, Ibiaku, Mkpat Enin, which brought together local government officials, community leaders and residents to mark the 2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day.
In his address, the Chairman expressed gratitude for the lives of active and retired servicemen and paid tribute to the legacies of fallen heroes, emphasizing that their sacrifices must be enshrined in Nigeria’s history and collective memory.
He called on citizens to recognize Armed Forces Remembrance Day not merely as a calendar event, but as a solemn opportunity to reflect on patriotism, courageand resilience displayed by those who defended the country’s unity at great personal risk.
Taking the first Bible reading from Esther 2:19–23, Engr. Inyang prayed for the souls of the departed and thanked God for protecting ex-servicemen in Mkpat Enin.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to implementing policies that ease the economic hardships faced by local residents.
Superintendent of Qua Iboe Church, Rev. Okworo Martins Okworo, delivered a sermon on the topic “Your Season of Remembrance” stressing that acts of faithfulness and loyalty, even when seemingly overlooked, are recorded and rewarded by God.
Rev. Okworo urged Nigerians to honour the sacrifices of ex-servicemen and ensure their contributions are never forgotten.
The event was attended by key government and community figures, including the Vice Chairman of the Local Government, Mrs. Owoidoho Inyangetuk; Secretary of Council, Hon. Aniedi Ekanem; NULGE Chairman, Mrs. Amaete Sunday David; and Directors of Information, Works, and Education, Supervisors for Information and Agriculture, Mr. Cletus Etete and Mr. Michael Akpan.
