Mkpat Enin Legislative Council Passes Environmental Sanitation Bye-Law, Advances CBT Centre Bill

The 8th Mkpat Enin Legislative Council has passed an Executive Bill seeking to enact a Bye-Law on Environmental Sanitation, Public Convenience, Sewage, Refuse Disposal, and other related matters within Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
The Executive Bill, sponsored by the Executive Chairman of Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, Hon. (Engr.) Emmanuel Inyang is designed to promote a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment across communities in the local government.
The motion for the passage of the Bill was moved by the Chief Whip and Councillor representing Ibiaku Ward 2, Hon. Angel-ini Gabriel Udom, and seconded by Hon. Kate Joshua, Councillor representing Ukpum Minya Ward 3. The Bill received overwhelming support from members of the Council.
The newly enacted Bye-Law provides a comprehensive legal framework for regulating environmental sanitation practices, waste management, sewage disposal, and the maintenance of public conveniences, with the objective of safeguarding public health and enhancing environmental safety.
Commending the development, the Leader of the 8th Mkpat Enin Legislative Council and Councillor representing Ikpa Ikono Ward 1, Hon. Nyakno Ekpo, praised the Executive Chairman for his proactive leadership and commitment to environmental governance. He noted that effective implementation of the Bye-Law would significantly improve the quality of life of residents in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area.
In a related legislative development, the Legislative Council also received the first reading of a Bill to establish a Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Computer-Based Test (CBT) Centre in Mkpat Enin Local Government Area, along with other related matters.
The Bill sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Education and Councillor representing Ukpum Minya Ward 2, Hon. Felix Johnson, as part of efforts to strengthen educational infrastructure within the local government.
The motion for the first reading was moved by the Chairman, House Committee on Ethics, Rules, Business and Privileges, Hon. Sophia Donald Udoekpo, Councillor representing Ikpa Ikono Ward 2, and seconded by Hon. (Elder) Joe Kokobassey Eshiet, Councillor representing Ikpa Ibom Ward 4.
The proposed legislation seeks to address challenges faced by candidates who travel to neighbouring local government areas to sit for JAMB examinations. When enacted, the CBT Centre is expected to reduce financial and logistical burdens on students and parents, improve access to examination facilities, and promote educational development in the area.
These legislative actions reaffirms the 8th Mkpat Enin Legislative Council’s commitment to environmental sustainability, and educational advancement.
